Why do teeth change color?

Am I a candidate?
Genetic predispositions and habits such as frequents consummation of coffee and black tea, tobacco and other food, can change the color of teeth. Laser whitening is ideal for people with healthy teeth, but who would like to have a nicer smile and raise their quality of life. This type of whitening is particularly appropriate for people with sensitive teeth because during treatment it is possible to control the level of laser light and adjust it to every individual. Teeth whitening is oftentimes a part of extensive oral rehabilitation therapy, especially in aesthetic dentistry.
Teeth whitening should not be done on children under 16 years of age and on pregnant women. In all other age groups it is allowed, often desirable. If you have sensitive teeth it is necessary to tell that to our doctors so that they can adjust the treatment or assess whether you are a good candidate for the treatment.
During the procedure
Before the laser whitening treatment, our doctors will examine your teeth and the supporting tissue, and if necessary, clean the calculus from the teeth surface. First step is the protection of gingiva (gums) with a special preparation. After that we apply hydrogen peroxide to the teeth. Hydrogen peroxide has natural teeth whitening properties. Laser light activates the properties of hydrogen peroxide in order to lighten the pigment in the tooth for a nicer and whiter smile. The treatment lasts 20 minutes, while the effects of teeth whitening can last up to three years. However, that will differ from person to person due to their life habits.
Recovery time
In some cases, the teeth can become temporarily sensitive to the cold during and after the treatment. Sometimes there can be unpleasantness in the gums, sore throat or white lines on the gums. These symptoms are usually temporary and normally go away within a few days.
Precautions
If you have sensitive teeth it is necessary to tell that to our doctors so that they can adjust the treatment or assess whether you are a good candidate for the treatment. The effect will probably last less if you smoke or drink products that darken the teeth (such as coffee, red vine, Coca-Cola, dark juices). For this reason it is necessary to avoid those products at least a week after the treatment.
