By teeth whitening, we change the teeth colour for a few shades in order to return the aesthetics of the teeth. The enamel is responsible for the white brilliance of the teeth, and it becomes thinner through usage, making the darker colour of dentin more visible. The cause of the colour change includes genetic and degenerative changes, antibiotics, ageing, as well as frequent use of coloured food and drink, and food supplements. Teeth that were not treated in a correct way can lead to unwanted change in colour, which is also the case for the teeth after endodontic treatment.
Why do teeth change color?
The cause of discoloration of teeth can be found in genetic and degenerative changes, antibiotics, aging, as well as in frequent consumption of colored food and drinks, and dietary supplements. Improperly treated teeth and endodontic treatment can also lead to unwanted discoloration.
Enamel is responsible for white glow of tooth, and it is becoming thinner, causing darker color of dentin to come through. To change the color of tooth, it is necessary to change the chemical structure of the pigment in the tooth tissue. This is achieved by using active oxygen molecules that enter the structure of the tooth with the help of hydrogen peroxide, and they bind to molecules of pigment, and this process is known as oxygenation.
Zoom method of teeth whitening
Apart from the laser teeth whitening, our dentists use Zoom WhiteSpeed which represents the most sought-after and the most famous teeth whitening system in the US. Zoom WhiteSpeed is an innovative and effective professional teeth whitening system made by the American manufacturer Philips, which uses the most advanced LED light technology.
The Zoom lamp emits optimal levels of light with greater level of intensity than other LED lamps on the market. The light activates the photo catalyser within the Zoom Chairside Gel which accelerates and improves the whitening results, enabling excellent results. Intensity can be adjusted to every person, enabling a more comfortable treatment and greater satisfaction for our clients. Zoom teeth whitening is a perfect way to restore the natural whiteness of your teeth.
Almost every person can benefit from teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is ideal for people who have healthy teeth, and wish for a brighter and more beautiful smile. In some cases, the teeth can become temporarily sensitive to cold during and after the treatment. Sometimes there is a sense of unpleasantness in gums, sore throat or white spots on the gum. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within few days after finishing the treatment.
Before Zoom tooth whitening treatment, dentists will examine your teeth and supporting tissues, and before treatment remove calculus on the tooth. Active ingredient Zoom whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide, which has a natural bleaching properties which are intensified under the light. Zoom lamp activates hydrogen peroxide and helps it to penetrate the surface of the tooth, after which pure oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and bleaches the colored area, leaving tooth structure unchanged. The treatment lasts for 45 minutes. Zoom can whiten teeth up to 6 shades and the results can last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person.
Zoom light results in minimal heating which is most often the cause of discomfort. In some cases teeth temporary become sensitive to cold during and after treatment. Sometimes there is a discomfort in the gums, sore throat or white spots on the gums. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days after the treatment.
The effect will probably be shorter if you are a smoker or often eat and drink teeth darkening products (e.g. coffee, red wine, Coke, dark coloured juices).
