Why do teeth change color?

Enamel is responsible for white glow of tooth, and it is becoming thinner, causing darker color of dentin to come through. To change the color of tooth, it is necessary to change the chemical structure of the pigment in the tooth tissue. This is achieved by using active oxygen molecules that enter the structure of the tooth with the help of hydrogen peroxide, and they bind to molecules of pigment, and this process is known as oxygenation.

During the procedure
Before Zoom tooth whitening treatment, dentists will examine your teeth and supporting tissues, and before treatment remove calculus on the tooth. Active ingredient Zoom whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide, which has a natural bleaching properties which are intensified under the light. Zoom lamp activates hydrogen peroxide and helps it to penetrate the surface of the tooth, after which pure oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and bleaches the colored area, leaving tooth structure unchanged. The treatment lasts for 45 minutes. Zoom can whiten teeth up to 6 shades and the results can last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person.

Recovery time
Zoom light results in minimal heating which is most often the cause of discomfort. In some cases teeth temporary become sensitive to cold during and after treatment. Sometimes there is a discomfort in the gums, sore throat or white spots on the gums. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days after the treatment.
Precautions
The effect will probably be shorter if you are a smoker or often eat and drink teeth darkening products (e.g. coffee, red wine, Coke, dark coloured juices).
