Facial skin is exposed to all elements and harmful substances from the environment due to which, facial skin ages faster. While other parts of the body are covered by clothing, the face is always exposed to view, so we are the most sensitive to changes that are reflected in our face.
Initial signs of aging are first seen in the reduction of elasticity of the skin and relaxation of facial muscles, the appearance of fine lines, emphasis of the natural folds of the face and changes in the contours of the face. Facelift is now a very successful procedure for removing and mitigating these changes, and the effect of a rejuvenated look lasts more than five years. After the expiry of this period, the face will still look better than it would look without surgery.
Facelift, a cosmetic surgery of tightening the facial muscles, is without doubt, the central intervention in aesthetic surgery.
It is the most common and most important aesthetic operation that belongs to a group of operations in terms of restoring facial contours to resemble how it looked at a younger age.
Face Lifting is also the base for all other cosmetic surgeries on the face and can be combined with other surgical procedures in that region.
This change has both an objective and a subjective side, since each person differently perceives aging and it is very difficult to accurately determine who and when needs the surgery. You will be given an objective opinion during the consultation at the Bagatin Clinic when the doctor will be able to give a reasonable estimate.
Based on your desire and ability to achieve results, the doctor will give you an opinion of what you should suit you better-whether a better performance would be achieved by surgical correction or non-invasive treatments, if we think that they would give a better solution, or even a combination of both.
Facelift at the Bagatin tightens not only the facial skin, but also the skin of the neck and part of the soft tissue segment. After such an operation the overall look of the face and neck changes.
The best results have been observed in the middle and lower third of the face and around the edge of the jaw, where it highlights the last line of the chin and gains a better crossing of the face towards the neck.
The surgery is performed when there are present signs of aging such as pronounced wrinkles, hanging skin, loss of tone in the previous contour of the face, namely the face "falls" and takes a sad look. Candidates for surgery are usually persons aged between 40 and 60 years.
Cosmetic surgery facial rejuvenation requires standard blood and urine tests: CBS; SE, coagulogram (PT, APTT, and fibrinogen), GUK, urea, creatinine; urine completely, ECG and internist examination.
A list of required tests will be given to you at the consultation examination in the Poliklinika Bagatin. After these blood and urine tests have been made it is necessary to undergo the anesthesiologist's examination in our policlinic where you will be given all the necessary information regarding all the facts on general anesthesia in which the procedure is performed.
Depending on the surgical technique, aesthetic facial rejuvenation surgery lasts from 3-4 hours. Most commonly facial and neck rejuvenation is performed together. The location and length of the incision depends on what the procedure is trying to achieve and is adapted to the needs of individual patient's condition (depending on the relaxation and quality of skin).
Most often the cut is made a few millimeters in the scalp of the eyebrows, in front of the ear and behind the ear as needed, if a more demanding of the tightening of the neck is required. Also, smaller incisions are made under the chin and below the angle of the mandible for the purpose of neck liposuction.
This is followed by lifting the skin from the subcutaneous tissue to tighten the inner layer and secure the soft tissue segment with the suture. After tightening the inner layer, a vertical removal of excess skin is performed and the incision is sutured.
If necessary cut a few centimeters below the chin can also be made in order to achieve the surgical removal of fat in the central part of the neck and further tightening of the neck muscles (platysma) in the median line. These procedures can be combined with other procedures on the face, any correction surgery, implant in the chin, dermabrasion perioral region, etc.
Recovery time depends on the type of operation. In the postoperative course, cold packs within 24-48 hours are recommended to be used. Painkillers also help in the early postoperative period and facilitate the initial recovery. Taking antibiotics is usually recommended during the first week after the operation.
As for eating in the initial days, it is necessary to consume light food. Preparations based on acetylsalicylic acid (andol, aspirin), as well as products based on vitamin C should be avoided. It is certainly good to have someone who will help you in the first few postoperative days. If you are not from Zagreb, find accommodation so that you can come to check-up and be under medical supervision the first 5-7 days. You will need to have a compression bandage around the head and part of the face up to 7-14 days, 24 h a day, followed by extraction of the seams. Wearing a bandage is recommended for another month, at night.
A return to normal daily activities is possible 7-14 days after surgery, while heavy physical activity should be avoided 4-6 weeks after the surgery.
Recovery of sensation of the face and ears gradually returns within the first month, exceptionally a little longer. Scars are usually unsightly, hidden in the scalp, in the natural crease in front of and behind the ear. The first results are already visible after 14 days, and the final after 6 -12 months.
Side effects of this treatment are usually temporary. In the first days after the operation facial swelling with bruising is expected. Within the first 24-48 hours it is recommended to put a cold compress on your face.
The face will be sore and tight for several days, which may be reduced and eliminated by analgetic.
Early complications may include bleeding, infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, and in rare cases, facial nerve palsy (facial nerve). Late complications can include a milder asymmetry of the left and right side which is usually in line with the natural asymmetry of the face.
You must be aware that the left and right sides are never equal and milder asymmetry of the face and neck is quite natural.
If the patient notices any specified, worrisome symptom, he should contact the cosmetic surgeon as soon as possible to intervene in time.
It is important to follow all the instructions as to restrict the possibility of complications to a minimum and accelerate postoperative recovery.
