The Planmeca CAD/CAM system has completed our existing digital systems. CAD/CAM stands for Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing, and for 40 years it has been widely applied in many fields which require great adaptability and precision (space, aircraft and automotive industry). In dentistry, CAD/CAM is used for production of prosthetic replacements (crowns, veneers, bridges, prosthetic fillings) which requires great precision, taking into account the anatomic characteristics of teeth and the client’s desired looks.

At Poliklinika Bagatin we use the CAD/CAM system of the renowned Finnish company Planmeca which consists of 3 parts. The first part is the intraoral scanner Planemeca PlanScan which uses blue laser beam for making a digital image of the tooth in only 5-6 minutes. After the precise digital image of the teeth and soft tissues is done, the image is entered into Planmeca PlanCAD Easy programme which serves for replacement designing taking into account the anatomical characteristics which helps better to communicate the final look of the teeth. The final design is sent to production using Planmeca Planmill 40 device that makes prosthetics. The process is extremely fast and enables the creation of a single crown in only 12 minutes. The material used for making the prosthetic replacement is porcelain, specifically e.max which is characterized by strength and color which mimics the natural appearance of the tooth.

CAD/CAM technology enables high precision that allows the prosthetic replacement to better sit on the tooth in comparison to standard hand-made in a dental laboratory. This method of making crowns, veneers and prosthetic restorations (Inlay/Onlay) make our customers more satisfied. The procedure was reduced to just one visit, without the need for temporary crowns.
