With age, the skin loses its elasticity and consistency, especially in the area of the eyelids, because the skin is here its thinnest. Loss of skin elasticity also allows the formation of wrinkles around the eyes, which were initially shallow, and then become deeper and more noticeable. Eyelids are slowly but surely changing their appearance. Excess skin occurs on them in the form of bags, wrinkles and fat pads, which gives the eyes and whole face a tired and old look. Excess skin and fat on the eyelids, can only be removed by an operation called Blepharoplasty or eyelid correction.
Aesthetic surgery of the eyelids is called cosmetic eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty. The above procedure removes unwanted effects of aging, corrects suspended (hanging) eyelids, eliminating the "bags" under the eyes and handled excessively pronounced wrinkles around the eyes. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is one of the most common procedures in cosmetic rejuvenation surgery and is one of the small and very effective cosmetic procedures and is in the hands of an experienced surgeon with no greater risk to the patient. Excess skin and fat tissue are removed by accurately measured and marked form.
During examination and consultation with Dr. Bagatin you will get the information requested and based on the findings, the best method of correction surgery will be suggested.
Patients undergoing correction of the eyelids are generally those in whom there are clearly visible signs of aging and who are dissatisfied with the aesthetic appearance of their eyes.
Before cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, it is necessary to stop taking the painkillers from a group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that contain acetylsalicylic acids like Aspirin, Andol or Acisal.
Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia, but it can also be performed in general. Access to the fatty tissue of the upper and lower eyelid allows cuts that follow the natural skin creases and lines. "Islands" of fat from the upper and lower eyelid is reduced or redirected, the muscles are reduced and excess skin cut. Carefully sewing ensures seamless scarring after healing. Stitches are removed fourth to seventh day after surgery. In some cases other approaches are also used. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is often (when necessary) performed in combination with other interventions.
Eyelid surgery is usually performed in local anesthesia and the patient is retained under medical observation in the Bagatin Clinic few hours after the procedure, and then released at home care. The patient may have increased production of tears and/or feeling of foreign body sensation in the eyes for about two weeks. Bruising and swelling usually go for 10-14 days. The characteristic of this technique is the complete absence of postoperative pain and no need for the use of analgesics.
Patients usually return to work after about ten days, some even earlier with the use of sunglasses.
Complications are rare and are reflected in the temporary dry eye, eyelid asymmetry or visible scars. During the consultation, Dr. Bagatin will acquaint you with all the complications and precautions.
